Good album, not my favorite Offspring album, still pretty good. At first was a bit unhappy with this album being my listen for the day - but it turns out to still hold up well - with surprisingly lucid lyrics and some classic tunes which might have lost a little luster with being overplayed back in the day yet are still great tracks. Almost every song is a banger. Quite enjoyable. Gets an extra star for being the only decent album this week. Punk Rick normally lands up aggravating me but the Offspring has a special place in my late teenage bones.

Love the energy on this album, but his voice is on the whiny side. Generally like The Offspring. These songs were all new to me total lie lol I just didn't recognize track names. Very nice album. Good driving music. Not bad. A couple of old cool get fired up songs. Solid entry. I have a soft spot for this album. Hearing "Self Esteem" on the radio was unique since it was so negative, which wasn't common in the 90s on Rochester's pop radio.

I've heard maybe half of this album's tracks? Kind of reminds me of the Ace of Spades album by Motorhead, like all the songs kind of blend together but they got a thing going on and they are nailing what they are aiming for. Fast and loose. Would have been fun to listen to them in a dive bar before they got popular! I'd rate it higher than Motorhead since this feels like it aged better. Come out and Play, Self Esteem Offspring are fun. Surprised I've never listened before.

Perfect expression of the 90s. Surprised a little bit by these songs - many of them seem more "serious" straight-ahead punk, as opposed to most of their radio songs which seem more like joke songs. I definitely enjoyed it. Not sure it belongs with the greats though. The hidden track reminded me of the old days, listening to 6 minutes of silence to hear some weird little ditty. Well this really isn't my thing - but I didn't hugely hate it either, which surprised me.

Also, cannot believe this was , thought it was later than that. Feel it may have been ahead of its time. Eigentlich ne geile Band. Back in the day, I found the radio singles "Come Out and Play" and "Self Esteem" fun but never really explored the album. The band is easy to categorize as pop punk, and some people like to throw the term "metal" into the mix, and to me they sort of blended in alongside quite a few other bands. I'm glad I checked out the whole album, and it was fun to go back and hear those hit songs within their context.

Growing up, this is what loads of my friends listened to. It wasn't really my bag, but I suppose I could be described as 'pop-punk adjacent' - not a fan, but more familiar than the average punter by dint of exposure. I remember thinking Smash was fine at the time, no more, no less. And I think I was right. All quite samey, not exactly a breadth of tone or instrumentation to marvel at, but okay nonetheless.

Good hooks though. For Offspring it's a good album, especially cause it came out when I was about 15 and crazy times with fast beats. Good punk for it's time, but doesn't have the same impact as other artists in the genre. Mixed feelings but that's what I expected. I think The Offspring are good at what they do, plenty of great guitar riffs, high energy and attitude, lots of good moments with backed up vocals that I like.

But they fall into that quantity over quality trap where they make lots of high energy songs, but don't have enough variety in style and dynamics the singer is pretty much shouting for the whole album. I think these guys and NOFX triggered a real 90s punk movement, which spawned many bands I like more, but I can't listen to too much of this fast-paced double-time drum stuff coz it slowly turns into a wall of sound and is a little too samey.

I like this band a lot but this album in particular, not so much. Huge nostalgia throughout this album. Pretty sure we had this album on tape. Offspring were big when I was pretty young. I'm a big fan of the offspring's album Americana and I love some of their singles.

This started slow for me but definitely picked up on the second half of the album where I geek they find their feet with bangers such as Self Esteem, Smash and What Happened To You embodying the sound of 90s America.

With lyrics like "I'm not a trendy asshole, don't give a fuck if it's good enough for you" the Offspring cement themselves as one the teenage angst punk rock heavyweights. It's fine, I don't understand why it is included in this list, but I listened to the whole thing. It's fine. Cracking album. A product of the age of the listeners. Harder punk rock than I'm used to. Have to be in the right mood, but definitely has some good songs.

This album is quite hard rock-y? Or something like that. I am not the biggest fan of the hard rock-y aspect. If you are into a activity this might raise your cardio. Ok for sure but not my typical cup of tea. Great nostalgia. Don't know if I would enjoy it as much if it was my first time listening today. At points the vocals made me think I was listening to Weird Al. Overall not a bad variety of songs. Ugh, obviously a pretty iconic band but started to all sound the same toward the end.

Was not my favorite but worth listening to for the classics. Enjoyed more than RHCPs 6. Although many songs are similar in style the popular hits are great. Starts out really fun. The kind of Rock music that I like. Great drums, nice melodies driving bass. Really good in the middle not quite as strong g towards the end but overall a solid album 3 stars.

Classic 90s punk, not super-polished, but a good album. I have heard a few tracks before. Sounds like system of a down. The production on the vocals is just awful! Wasn't feeling it until Genocide, that was a banger. Pretty great punk album. Pop-punk, but with an agressive edge. Dosent have a whole lot of variety though, even by punk standards.

Closer to a 3. You have to be in a certain mood to enjoy this album, otherwise it gets annoying. Loved some parts but could have been shorter or with more variety. Reminds me of my youth - although not necessarily in a good way. With more listening, there is more nuance to the singles where it's faux ska with high pitches shouting and slabs of guitars. Good one, this punk organic sound is a bless after all those synths on this list lol. Nice to hear the evolution that took them to Americana.

Also, nice that the hidden song is the same one. Doesn't strike me as something that ought to be on the list. Not that I hate it. Was skeptical about this album, but the simple melodies and generic lyrics are easy to listen to. I've heard a couple of their songs in the past, but never really paid attention, so this is my first real listen to their music.

Energetic, fun, and super-tight. Somewhat similarity to the Meat Puppets, a band I really like, but with more edge and thrashiness. I like their sense of melody in some of the tracks. Overall, I like this album. Almost a danceable, or at least foot-tapping, version of punk-influenced rock. Some real catchy guitar licks, too. To me, they sound kind of like the garage bands I heard in the mid and late 80s, but at a much higher level of ability, craft, and discipline in a great way.

Fun stuff. Not familiar with this album. Self-Esteem sounds very familiar --lots of radio play. Movies too? I thought this was going to be death metal lol, but I was "pleasantly" surprised. Every song wallops you from the very beginning! Much more adherent to the classic punk motif than I had anticipated from hearing only their single output. A bit of an homage to nirvana vocally.

This is great for what it is though honestly I would go with Bad Religion for largely the same sound with smarter lyrics and more interesting vocals I watched Green Day OPEN for Bad Religion in the First Avenue main room in Minneapolis in the early 90s if you want to approximately date my old ass.

Starts off strong, had lost me by the end. Definitely good angry kid music, pretty listenable. Was hoping for so much more. Loved the intro tracks though can imagine that would've been a massive gee up to hear on first play in the stereo after purchase from Sanity.

Made for the mosh pit, high octane fast grunge punk metal, lots to enjoy. There's nothing wrong with this album. Fun, fast, punk pop. I had a passing familiarity with The Offspring as I do enjoy a few of their songs but have never listened to a full album.

It really reminded me of playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games. It was fun although you aren't going to get a huge variety in terms of music as the songs do sound very similar. Yet, oddly it had this weird charm that just hit me in the right way although I don't think I'll be revisiting it soon though. Re-listening after years I have to be honest that it has lost quite a bit of its appeal.

Now this came out when I was discovering punk and even in those days was not my favourite. Pros: - Really brings me back to being a kid in the 90s. I was 4 when this album came out so I probably heard it on the radio. Such a throwback! For never listening to the album full through, I definitely knew a lot of the tracks, which goes to show they had a lot of hits!

Very up beat and good music for driving and getting pumped up for the day. Alvum se punk rock assez generique. Seulement entendu 2 classiqir de offspring. A good choice of 90s skater punk. For what it is, it's fun. This is a high 3 album - liked the singing, the pace and the fact it has some good tunes. Good, some songs blend together. Very noticeable voice, nice music to sing along to. Self Esteem is on it and is still a favorite.

Second half is amazing. Turns out the length of a song is about all I can tolerate. Listened in short bursts throughout the day. A whole album is just too much at once. Love the songs I know, though! Not really my type of music, a bit too raw and aggressive sounding although can see its appeal if one likes the genre. There was a time in my life where I could tolerate Dexter's voice. That time has passed. The only upside is how perfectly it captures pissed off early 90s teenagers.

A couple of songs are okay, but after a while it becomes boring and repetitive. Esfuerzan demasiado la voz para mi gusto. Disco importante para el desarrollo del pop punk en los I liked the 2 hits in the middle and the rest was ok for what it is. Tiene 5 rolas chidas, 2 extraordinarias. The talking in the intro makes me a little uncomfortable. Overall a little too intense and repetitive-sounding for my taste.

It's a bit much. Probably a little bit too much. It's not like Det riffet skojar man INTE bort. I remember seeing this album - you didn't have to go far to find someone who owned it. Multiple tracks from this album are familiar because of regular radio play, and one or two tracks feel like a vortex straight back to the 90s.

The album didn't appeal to me back then, and listening to the full album didn't make me like the music more than I liked it back then. The vocals are easily recognizable, and a weight too heavy to carry for me to like this album. Shouty shouty repetitive bobbins! I sound like an old got writing this, but I felt the same when it was released. I never got on with Offspring although I should have been target demo. I remember being aggrieved that they called themselves punk when they sounded nothing like the Sex Pistols.

Besides this, I still don't really enjoy the sound. Very fast rock - like Motorhead with a different vocalist. They got through a lot of drummers and I'm not surprised. Look, this is going to probably be an unfair review as this is not really my kind of music. I do however like the irony of the opening track saying to 'relax' and then the first song begins with drums and guitar. That voice is almost unlistenable for me. Very poppy simple melodies… should this album be in this list?

Not my cup of tea, but my favorite track was What Happened To You? I almost bought this album so many times, but the singles off this thing were unavoidable in the mid-late 90s. I just wasn't sure I was alternative to this degree. I liked Nirvana and Green Day, but these guys were something else - like fake punk instead of real? Anyway, songs were catchy, but there was something artificial about them to me. Just doesn't grab me even though it was supposed to!

I didnt like it on the radio back in the day. The other tracks are better but it is just passable. Self Esteem offers much to identify with, yes, but the rest of the album? A collection of bland noise tracks, all uncannily similar to one another. How did the otherwise faultless Andrew Lauder mess this one up? Andrew Lauder you have some answering to do. Good thing, because the records began at age seven. Damn, if only I started at birth. In the case of this flyer, saving every last item allowed me to pinpoint the exact date and hour when a whole new musical world was revealed behind that invisible curtain.

There had been a few jolting revelations before and several after, but that moment when rock as it had been known and loved immediately became the past occured on February 29, Feelgood were a blistering no holds barred introduction to pub and punk. Gone was the polish and self indulgence, the bloat and tired outfits. What the music world changed into we all know. It was a fantastic time to be young and insatiable. Corinne and I, with our dearest friend Karen Kasiner, braved a winter storm to see Dr.

Immediately uncomfortable sounding. Being on Capitol Records blindly reinforced the possibility, as the label seemed to lean west coast when it came to domestic signings. Supposedly one of the first electronic rock bands to use Moog in the lineup, as with Silver Apples, seems they set the stage for Suicide a few years down the line. Nowadays, US pop radio just swims as hard against that tide as possible.

Buy a pair, get a free single. I was having none of that. Having said that, he and his partner in Suicide, Marty Rev, always were, and still are, sonically light years ahead of the rest of the planet. Have you ever seen Suicide live? They are more powerful than ever. Do not waste the rest of your life. See them ASAP. Thanks Bruce Springsteen for rightfully honoring Suicide and performing this at concerts. Apparently his respect for Alan and Marty goes way back.

Good one. Good and noisy, a bit tuneless, beautiful chaos, as The Psychedelic Furs were once described. Always did appreciate those occasional Mark E. Smith vocal moments too. As it turns out, the band were five years into their career, so the apparent novelty was absolutely tolerable.

I still play it often. Pretty accurate so far, and then he throws in a Scott Walker shout out. There are not near enough Cramps singles with Kid Congo Powers. Others might contest my statement, including Ivy herself — and if anyone would know, it would be her. Well maybe Candy Del Mar, maybe. Hair, clothes, swirling on stage tornado — he will never be topped. And talk about a lovely person, with a gentle smile and the sweetest sense of humor.

Kid Congo is just a higher form of life. Like the rest of the band, Kid stripped his contribution to the song of every excess not needed and documented the raw, naked power of primal purity. Have a look back at my L7 post from May 4th, It ends with the following few lines:. And the other one is.. B side!!!!! He showed me. And thank the heavens above — I have a tape of it.

And I doubt I was alone. And the US tour in support was debilitating to those not ready, even those of us that were. Kid played flawlessly, all the while swigging from a bottle of….. Pepto Bismol. Another one I have a tape of, now a file, and in between, a cd. When I need to be swept into oblivion, I put it on.

You need both. This single had an important moment. Both were way too much for bad rock radio controlled America, but The Cars were huge and Ric had the clout to bring real art to late night viewers. It was one of the songs he performed, and has yet to make it on to you tube.

I never much cared about The Stooges. How crazy is that? I did have a friend to stay with at least. Iggy turned up in a blue mini skirt and white fur jacket — dressed identical to his girlfriend, both sporting bleached yellow hair. It was cool. You almost, like with Kraftwerk, The Ramones, Suicide or The Cramps, need not bother going to see anything else ever again. This also was a favorite call and response number I sparred off with between myself and our daughter Ping when she was about 5, so pretty sentimental.

The point being to play all the very happening music the college and underground kids were devouring and giving the station a touch of needed cred, as well as allowing them to sell spots to local clubs promoting those bands as they passed through town, and charging the labels for some time buys on these releases without really having to play this uncommercial music during the earlier hours, when people actually listened.

I was thrilled and should have appreciated it more, as no one has ever offered me a similar opportunity since. When visiting town last year, I gave the station a listen. Oh well, they stifled music culture for long enough. My show, hidden at midnight on Tuesdays.

With Marty Rev, his other half in Suicide, you can save yourself a lot of time and money by seeing one of their very occasional New York shows. How the likes of Beyonce etc. Why acts get out of bed in the morning trying to compete with Suicide is quite baffling to me.
